Like many great ideas for new businesses, AutoSquad was born out of personal experiences - one good, one bad. Since we at AutoSquad prefer to end on a happy note, let’s start with the less-than-great experience first. Once upon a time, a man in Los Angeles needed a tire. So he called his car dealer. When he got the price, he said, “but I only need one tire.” To which the stealer, uh, dealer said, “that is the price for one.”
Since he needed the tire, he headed on over to the dealer where he waited and waited and thought about all the things he could be doing with his time. Our hero’s next thought was, “man, there has to be a better way.”
In a case of bi-coastal serendipity, a friend of our LA guy, had a great experience back on the East Coast. He needed a new windshield. Like any smart Washingtonian, he headed straight for Google, found a mobile installer, and had a new windshield by the next day.
As the two friends shared their story, it hit them: let’s start a business that offers a better experience for getting new tires. First they did their research. Guess what they found out? They weren’t the only ones who didn’t like their tire-buying experience. In fact, they couldn’t find one person who enjoyed overpaying and sitting for hours in a dingy waiting room staring at (they dare not drink) old, bad coffee, and reading week-old newspapers. Most felt that they were “sold” a tire and not in that friendly, consultative way that companies talk about these days. And then there were the high pressure upsells. Enough!
Our founders knew it wouldn’t be easy but they started out with a few non-negotiable goals: offer great prices with a money-back guarantee, a wide selection of tires with independent, expert buying advice, and high-quality installation at the consumer’s preferred location and time. Sound lofty? Perhaps a bit but true innovation requires thinking big.
And thus AutoSquad was born. But of course, that’s not the end of the story. Many thousands of happy customers later, AutoSquad is the leading mobile tire installer in the country. And guess what? Now we even do brakes.
